Rock Lab is Fresno Music Academy & Arts’
live band development program for students ages 13–19 who want more than just lessons — they want the real experience of being in a band.
Over the course of several months, students are placed into working bands where they learn how to rehearse, collaborate, arrange songs, communicate musically, and perform together in a live setting. Each participant receives both weekly private instruction and guided group band rehearsals led by experienced FMAA instructors.
Rock Lab helps young musicians develop:
Live performance skills
Band communication and teamwork
Stage presence and confidence
Song arrangement and rehearsal techniques
Real-world experience playing in a working band
Under the direction of longtime instructors and musicians Harley Giles and John Koontz, students grow from individual players into cohesive performing bands, culminating in a live public performance at a local venue.
Whether you play guitar, drums, bass, keyboard, or sing, Rock Lab is designed to help young musicians take the next step from practicing alone to making music together.
